Today, Melbourne Aviation Precinct entered into an agreement with the R.M. Ansett Historical Aircraft Society to restore the Douglas DC-3 “Kanana” to its former glory.
It has long been the wish of the Historical Aircraft Society, along with the broader aviation community to see Kanana fly again. Now, this dream will be realised.
The restoration work required for the aircraft is extensive. Necessary tasks include overhaul of both engines and propellers, removal of minor corrosion, replacement of control cables and a number of scheduled maintenance tasks. A specialist team of volunteers has been assembled from the aviation engineering community, who in conjunction with MAP will oversee this work over the coming months.
We hope that you will join us in following and supporting this exciting project. You can follow progress on the restoration at Legendary Kanana on Instagram, and we will be posting regular updates on the MAP website.
